Days 8, 9 and 10--back in Antwerp

  Back in Antwerp after our Rhine Valley weekend, and we are taking it easy.  Monday Dave heads back to work so it was just us girls, and we did a little shopping, a little laundry, and generally lazed about watching Harry Potter 7, part 1 on dvd. Tuesday we walked down the street to the theater for the long awaited sequel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2, and yes, it was in English, thank goodness, 'cause we didn't want to wait til we got home to see it!!

But today we decided to go out on an adventure.  I wanted to go to Middelheimmuseum, an open air sculpture museum.  We could have gotten a cab to take us straight there, but that would be too easy.  We are experienced travellers, we will take the bus!  Of course, I had no idea how to take the bus, and while many people speak English, all of the signs are in Dutch.  So after wandering around a bit, we found an information desk in the train station with a very helpful attendant, and 20 minutes later we were on the bus, our new travel card in pocket, the museum not too far away.

Bos in-zicht

translates to Forest in-sight....over 100 ceramists collaborated to create this installation.  What is a tree?  these "abstract versions of trees in wood and different kinds of clay" are meant to show how a blind person might 'see' a tree with their sense of touch.  This was my favorite piece.









The Prophet
