Since school starts late this year we had time for one more trip. We loaded up the car, picked up Mom and headed to the Beach. We still had Zoe with us, so she came, too.We loved the downtown area with all the little shops and seafood restaurants. And pirates, of course!
There were statues of shrimp everywhere. We took a ferry to Cumberland Island, an undeveloped island on the GA coast. Wild horses were on hand to greet us near the docks.
From the docks it was about a half mile hike to the beach. The live oaks are beautiful!
On the boardwalk over the dunes, and our beach awaits us!
The girls work on sand castles for a while, but it's hot and those waves look really good...
I wanted to see the ruins of some of the great mansions that used to be here. After a very long and hot hike on a different trail, we finally arrived.

no, it's not the loch ness monster. we saw two manatees swimming near the docks. They pushed up their noses and gave loud snorts like horses, but they never came too much above the water.

The next day everyone was very tired from hiking Cumberland Island. We spent a lazy morning at the pool and later we made a trip downtown to check out this ice cream place....

We spent a morning on Fernandina Beach, more sand castles and more waves to jump in...
And a delicious seafood basket at Sliders.
Time to get back...
