Rocky Mountain Vacation

Alex loves the chairs at a cafe on Pearl  St Mall in Boulder

We had a great vacation in Denver with family.  Thanks Dean and Karen (and Max for giving up her room) for a fun week.
We spent a couple of nights at Estes Park and stayed at the Stanley Hotel, the place where Stephen King got the idea for The Shining.  It's a very haunted hotel, and we took the Ghost Tour to find out where all the best ghosts are.  Didn't see any ghosts, but in the middle of the night, we may have received a visitation....three mysterious taps woke me up, very very scary taps...but no one else was awake and no one was at the door.....oooohhhh.
The next day we took a beautiful drive on Trail Ridge Road, stopping to admire all the scenery.  We lunched at Alpine Visitor Center, 11,796 ft above sea level,  before meeting up with everyone again for a scenic 4th of July train ride.
We took the kids to the Denver Zoo on Friday, and that finished our week!

does she dare go in?  it's locked, so we'll never know.

The Stanley Hotel from our paddle boat on Estes Lake

Alex dips a foot into Estes Lake.  Also accidentally dipped the boot in....takes forever for a boot to dry.

lunch at Poppy's in Estes Park...

On the Ghost Tour in the Stanley...a flash photo of the stairs to the bell tower  shows someone, or something, has been there!

going for a Mexican dinner tonight...that's not actually the door  though...it's only a painting.

Even though she has a broken foot, Alex hobbles down a scenic walkway

getting higher now, and getting colder, especially with a chilly rain pelting us.

Alex couldn't make it across these rocks, so Casey is taking her a snowball.
