On Saturday the girls and I went up to Etowah Indian Mounds with Dad. It's just north of us in Cartersville, but we haven't been before. 500 years ago the area was home for thousands of Native Americans. They were having a fundraiser and we thought the girls would enjoy some of the activities. After enjoying a picnic lunch, we went up to see some of the exhibits. They had tables with arrowheads, people showing how to make and use weapons, basketweaving and so m
uch more, including a chance for the girls to dig for "artifacts." They had fun filling their buckets with dirt from the "site" and screening it, but we didn't find anything interesting. 
There are 3 mounds, and of course we climbed to the top of each one. The tallest has 134 steps, and it was windy at the top!
Down at the Etowah River we got to see how Native Americans made dugouts, a kind of canoe. This guy has been working on it for a couple of years now, slowly burning out the inside.
Everyone had a go at climbing this tree, but no one made it very far.
Just as well, I didn't pack any extra clothes!
